About Sean Chin

Hi there,

A short blurb about myself. I grew up in Miri, a small town in tropical Malaysian Borneo. Since 2008, I've lived abroad in various places including Brisbane, Australia, and for the past 10 years (and counting), I've called Singapore my home.

Drawn to colourful visuals and sights, I've always favoured visual media over literature, as nothing beats the vivid hues and imagery of the real world.

I first picked up photography at the age of 21 when my dad gifted me my first DSLR, an EOS 60D. Words can’t describe how happy I was then, having longed for a DSLR for years. Since then it’s been a great joy to capture memories and wonders. I’m thrilled to share some of my photos with you on this website.

2023 was an exciting chapter for my photography journey as I started shooting with my first full-frame camera, the Canon EOS R5 C, which has been an amazing experience capturing stunning landscapes. I look forward to capturing more around the world!

Most of my photography skills are self-taught, thanks to copious amount of tutorials on YouTube from inspiring photographers. I would describe my photography style as colourful and real. I try to creatively convey my photos with brilliant colours without distorting too far from reality. I am still learning and adjusting my photo composition and editing styles.

I hope you enjoy viewing my galleries. Feel free to reach out to me on just about anything. I’m happy to collaborate and learn.

Sincerely,

Sean Chin

FAQ

  • I mainly shoot on the Canon EOS R5 C. If a second camera is required, I have a trusty and compact Canon M6 Mark II. I am a Canon fanboy.

  • I edit predominantly on Lightroom. I avoid embellishing the look of my photos with AI to retain the genuineness and authenticity, especially with the advent of generative AI which makes it difficult to discern what’s real or not.

For videos, I edit mostly on Premiere Pro.

  • Top sources of inspiration on my list are Thomas Heaton, Nigel Danson, Luke Stackpoole, Adam Karnacz, and Simon D’entremont. There’s so much to learn from the professionals and they really inspire me to hone my photography and editing skills further.

  • If it isn’t already obvious, my current favourite is landscape photography. Taking my first photos of snowcapped mountains in New Zealand, Te Waipounamu, was a pivotal moment in my photography journey. Living in Singapore, it is a bit limited so I only really get to do it while I’m overseas.

Other than that, I’m trying to get into portraits. If you have any pro tips to share, or are interested to do portrait shoots together, hit me up!
